It’s been a minute. Like almost a year since I last sent out a letter.
I’ve been…in reflection.
I’ll explain the gap and reintroduce everything later, but first (for everyone who’s thinking right “uhhh, who tf is this?”), lemme jog your memory:
You probably subscribed through my blog, potentially when it was named Jef Quinn (jefquin.com).
(now it’s No Compass)
You can poke around some past letters to spark your memory. But if you’re still confused and not into this, you can unsubscribe at the end of this letter (no hard feelings!).
But if you’re curious to stick around (hope you do!), here’s what’s in store moving forward.
Moving Forward—What to Expect
For a long time, this newsletter felt like a journal dumping ground…a mixed bag with stuff about carefree living, travel, lifestyle and self development.
I constantly felt pulled in multiple directions, changing themes often (even if you never noticed, I felt it).
But that’s what embracing the journey looks like.
Meandering. Ups and downs. Confusion. The unknown.
Normal, proof you’re out of the armchair and in the field.
This is why I renamed this project No Compass:
Don’t just embrace the unknown, run to it. It’s proof you’re on track, even when it feels wrong or you feel behind. “The only way out is through.” The journey laughs at the perfect plan. The destination is an illusion; the messy middle is the story. And it last forever, if you’re lucky. Checkpoint along the way, sure, but never-ending really. Protect the journey; if needed, tear up the script. Pivots, serendipities, confusion and self doubt are all signals you’re in it. The unknown is a balancing act: the ability to have a clear vision and stay the course, but also flexible enough to welcome change.
Beyond that, I have a burning philosophy that drives everything I make (the letters, the music, the videos, the art): it’s never too late to become who you were always meant to be.
These core themes will co-direct this newsletter. Topics will echo my past rants (lifestyle, self development…mixed with travel and creativity). But I want to share ideas that feel more real, more human, more original…different.
Sometimes you need to hit pause and let things incubate…like pulling over to grab a hotel for a few nights, taking a break from the trip.
Anyways, I hope you decide to stick around, I’m looking forward to this next leg of the trip.
Alright then, talk soon ✌️
